Warped Texture

The large floor loom, upon which many weavings are created.

I do weaving and other forms of art because I love it. I love the process of weaving and building a piece of art from many individual strands of yarn and other materials. Weaving has been around for a very long time, but the technique and process have not changed. However, I like to add a funky modern twist to it.

Most of my work is abstract, whether I’m making a wall piece or a wearable piece of art. I love playing with color and texture. I like combining unusual materials, such as chain or plastic, with the traditional materials, like cotton or wool. It creates interesting contrasts between hard and soft, natural and unnatural.

Recently, I have been working with the idea of creating designs within a piece, by allowing parts of it (such as the warp strings that move through the loom) to go unwoven. It creates a contrast to the thicker woven parts of the weaving, giving a more dimensional and articulate feel to the piece.
